How can we help?

The short version. Closer is built and maintained by a small team. A real person reads every message you send to support and replies, usually within one business day. If you don't find what you need below, scroll to Contact us at the bottom of this page.


Pairing with your partner

Closer only works once you and your partner are paired. Pairing is one-to-one: each account can be paired with exactly one other account at a time.

How pairing works. Open the Us tab and tap Invite partner. Closer generates a short invite code and a join link, and lets you share either by message, AirDrop, or any share-sheet target. Your partner opens the link or enters the code on their phone, and you're paired.

Invite codes expire after 48 hours. If yours has expired, open the Us tab and tap Invite partner again to share a fresh code. The previous code stops working once a new one is issued.

"My partner answered but I can't see it yet." Closer is solo-first: you each answer privately, and the responses unlock for both of you only after you've both submitted. This is by design — it keeps your answer your own until your partner has shared theirs.

Need to unpair. There isn't an in-app unpair button yet. Email support@closerapp.us and we'll unpair the account for you, usually within one business day.

Your account

Sign-in methods. Closer supports Sign in with Apple, Google, and email. We treat all three as equivalent — you'll get the same account back as long as you sign in with the same provider you used to create it.

Switched providers? If you originally signed up with Apple but try to sign in with email (or vice versa), Closer will see those as two different accounts. Sign in with the original provider, or email support@closerapp.us and we can help merge them.

Change your name or email. There isn't an in-app edit screen yet. Email support@closerapp.us from the address on file and we'll update it for you. Doing it through email lets us confirm the request is really from you.

Add or change your password. If you signed up with email, open Settings → Security and choose Change password (or Add password, if you don't have one yet).

Log out. Settings → Log out (near the bottom of the screen). Logging out doesn't delete anything — sign back in with the same provider to pick up where you left off.

Delete your account. Settings → Delete account (very bottom of the screen). This removes your profile, your answers, your discussions, and your share of the partnership within thirty (30) days. See the Privacy Policy for the full deletion timeline and what is retained for legal or fraud-prevention reasons.

Notifications

Turn notifications on or off. Settings → Notifications. There's a master switch for push notifications, plus per-category toggles for the daily question, partner answered, reveal ready, streak at risk, streak milestones, weekly quiz, partner joined, and comeback reminders. Turn off only what you don't want — the rest will keep working.

Not receiving push notifications. First, check Settings → Notifications inside Closer to make sure the master switch and the relevant category are both on. Then check your phone's system settings (iOS Settings → Closer → Notifications, or Android Settings → Apps → Closer → Notifications) to make sure notifications are allowed at the OS level. If they're enabled in both places and still not arriving, log out and log back in — that re-registers your device with our notification service.

When notifications arrive. The daily question reminder lands in the morning (around 9am local). The "streak at risk" reminder, if you haven't answered yet, comes in the evening. All times follow the time zone your phone reports, so they shift automatically when you travel.

Streaks and freezes

How the streak works. Each partner has their own streak. Your streak counts the number of consecutive days you've answered the daily question. Your partner's streak counts theirs. They don't have to match.

Missed a day. If you miss a day, your streak resets to zero the next morning. Your partner's streak is unaffected by your missed day. This is intentional — Closer rewards your own consistency, not a shared dependency.

Monthly freeze. Once per calendar month, Closer can use a streak freeze to protect a missed day. The freeze is granted automatically on the first of each month and applied automatically the next morning if you didn't answer the day before — you don't have to do anything. You'll see the action show up on your streak history.

Streak says wrong number. Close and reopen the app. The streak recalculates on every sync. If it still looks wrong, email support@closerapp.us with the day(s) you remember answering and we'll investigate.

Privacy and your data

What your partner sees. Your partner sees your answers to daily questions, your quiz responses, your discussion messages, and your reactions — but only after you've both submitted on a given activity. They do not see your account email, your sign-in method, your notification settings, or your usage analytics.

Export your data. Email privacy@closerapp.us and ask for a data export. We send back a portable archive of your profile and Your Content within thirty (30) days.

Delete your data. You can delete your account from inside the app (see Your account above), or email privacy@closerapp.us. The deletion timeline and exceptions are described in detail in our Privacy Policy.

We don't train AI on your content. Your answers and discussions are not used to train generative AI models, ours or anyone else's. This is a permanent commitment, not a default we might change.

Troubleshooting

The app won't load. Force-close Closer and reopen it. If it still won't load, check that your phone has an internet connection — Closer is online-only and needs a live connection to sync with your partner. If the problem persists, log out from Settings → Log out and sign back in.

Pairing fails. Make sure your partner is entering the most recent code (codes expire after 48 hours and only the latest one is valid). Codes are case-insensitive but the character 0 (zero) and O (letter) are distinct — copy-paste avoids the ambiguity.

My partner left. If your partner deletes their account or unpairs from you, your shared activities stay visible in your own account as a record of what you did together, but no new shared activities will be created until you pair with someone again. You can generate a new invite code at any time.

Is Closer free? Yes — Closer is free today. If we ever introduce paid features, we'll tell you well in advance and the things you use today will keep working.

Something else is broken. Email support@closerapp.us with a short description, your phone model, your operating system version, and (if you can) a screenshot. We respond to every report.

The fastest way to reach us is email. Both inboxes are read by a real human on the team — usually by Ram, who builds the product.

Response time. We reply to every message within one business day. If your message is time-sensitive (you can't sign in, your account is locked, you've been harassed by another user), say so in the subject line and we'll prioritize it.

We do not have a phone line, a live chat, or a Twitter support handle. Email is the channel — and we keep up with it.
